Bayview takes on D’Alberton Callies in intense friendly

THE ever competitive Bayview Sports Club (BSC) soccer boys braved the scorching heat to take on a newly formed D’Alberton Callies U15 side in a friendly soccer match on Sunday, 16 February at (BSC).

The game took on an intense start with D’Alberton Callies taking an early lead by two goals,  from former BSC players Jaliel ‘Lilly’ Eddie and Lungelo Ngwane, who are now playing for D’Alberton Callies together with Chase Labuschagne and Jordan Roskruge. Callies dominated the first 10 minutes of the game, knocking the ball nicely to one another, but Bayview upped their game after going down by 2 goals after sloppy defending and an error by one of the defenders. Bayview however being 2 goals down, showed lots of character and fought back with superb goals from Kealyn Smith in the first half, and a wonderful on the volley strike from Khamile Aliphon into the top right hand corner leaving the goalkeeper with no chance of saving that ball. Callies came back and sealed the deal winning the game 3-2.

Star Bayview players were striker, Songezo Gumede as well as the team’s central defender who was also the captain on the day, Jaliel ‘’Lilly ‘’Eddie. Lungelo Ngwane and Shuaib Adams came on very strong as substitutes and changed the dimension of the game.

“Although the heat was quite exhausting, a few challenges noted was that our players need to work on their fitness. Players need to all start playing as a team, there will always be a few highly skillful players but they need to understand that showboating does not win matches. The hardest thing in football is to play it simple, which can make football very easy, players need to remember and understand that the ball never gets tired, so holding on too long to the ball can become exhausting, making it difficult to play when you tired, especially playing in the heat,” said BSC coach, Mario Labuschagne.

“The game was played very well. We’re only a few weeks into training as a team and our boys are beginning display a good understanding of what is required of them on field. I believe we’re only going to get better with time. Defence and distribution of the ball was impressively solid and I can see these boys going very far,”said proud D’Alberton Callies coach, Faizel Goliath. 

D’Alberton Callies a former professional soccer club, played its trade in the old national soccer league but unfortunately closed down. The club has now decided to resurrect the club by starting with an U15 team in efforts to mould and groom promising players for the future and hopefully restore the club to a full functioning soccer club with all age groups and develop youngsters into potentially professional players.

Both managers and coaches were pleased with the performance of their players and now have a feel on the areas they need to work on for the new 2020 Season coming up.
