Wentworth SAPS share key neighbourhood safety tips:
– Talk to people in your area about crime and safety. Street committees already exist within Merewent areas. Join street committees and/or be part of the neighbourhood watch.
-Arrange a walk with other people in the neighbourhood as soon as possible and identify problems and solutions.
-Keep all emergency numbers in case you need to contact relevant authorities.
– Activate your alarm system in case of emergency.
– Install burglar guards in your property and always check for other security areas which need improvement.
– Conduct thorough background checks before employing anyone (permanent or casual workers).
-Don’t leave your garage, front or back door open as it serves as an invitation to burglars.
-Suspects have a tendency of derailing the electronic controlled gates before walking into the properties. If possible use a padlock to lock the gate or tell the helper to lock should in case he/she is left alone.
-Always report any suspicious persons or vehicles driving aimlessly around your neighbourhood.
