Bayview host Warriors in heated pre-season tourney

THE day promised an enjoyable combination of action and fun and it delivered just that when Bayview FC took on Wentworth Warriors in a pre-season soccer tournament on a scorching hot Sunday, 15 March, at Bayview Sports Club.

The U7, U9, U11 boys and open girl’s teams from both sides displayed competitive spirit and camaraderie on the field.
First on the field on the day was the U7 A teams from both clubs. Both teams showed fantastic team work and resilience. Wentworth Warriors maintained good pace and a strong defence throughout the game, giving Bayview quite the run around. A nervous start got the better of the hosts in the pre-season tourney, as in a cagey battle Bayview snuck over the line in a 3-0 loss to Warriors.

Despite the Bayview A side receiving the shorter end of the stick, Bayview U7 B team fought back brilliantly winning 1-0 against Warriors with the winning goal secured by Kwando Shangase at the back of the net.
“The game was well played overall and we thank Bayview for hosting and allowing us to play on their fields. The players and parents had fun. Janez Webster scored an excellent solo goal and our only girl playing with our U7 boys, Keyah van Tonder did an excellent job on her defence during the game. We’re very proud of our players and it’s all about keeping our children entertained and off the streets,” said Wentworth Warriors coach Liall Stokes.

Bayview U7 coach, Leigh Dressing said the pre-season friendly was a good warm up for the boys “The boys are still trying to find their feet and the games went quite well. I’m proud of the boys.”
The U9 A side had a final score of 5-2 to Bayview and the Bayview B side also secured a win of 4-1. Bayview U11s also took the win with a score of 7-4.

Spectators also got to witness the newly formed Bayview Ladies FC showcase their talent in their first match. The ladies have been training hard for weeks prior to their first match in preparation for the games that will follow.
The first half was rather competitive and fast-paced for both teams with Warriors dominating the game with some young skillful players.

The Bayview head coach, Patricia Taylor used her years of coaching experience to her advantage by noticing the pressure being put on her players and made some good positional changes in the second half which saw her team taking charge of the field to score a magnificent four goals in one half.
Bayview Ladies won 4-0 against Warriors.
