YMA market fundraiser a tail-wagging success
The fundraising initiative for abused and abandoned animals was well supported by local craftsmen, businesses and community members alike.
YELLOWWOOD Park Montclair Animals’ (YMA) first ever craft market held on Saturday, 14 March was deemed a tail-wagging success.
The fundraising initiative for abused and abandoned animals was well supported by local craftsmen, businesses and community members alike. Apart from the gifting, fashion, local crafts, fresh produce, home wares, pet products, baked goods, cold drinks and various foods on sale, Dj Joker kept all entertained on the day. The market also provided a children’s corner with a child minder, a jumping castle and face painting fun.
“We wanted to do something positive for the whole community and therefore approached Nadene Lotz, chairperson of the Yellowwood Park Sports Club, to host the market on the premises every Saturday. We have also engaged with the Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (Crow), Metro Police, Montclair police, local snake catcher and wildlife enthusiast Warren Dick, to all host educational talks and presentations in the coming weeks at the market. As YMA we will also do talks on what to do and who to call when you find a stray.
“We are a new organisation so the aim is to become self-sustainable and able to pick up every stray and pay a foster to keep our dogs until we find homes for them. Its all about raising funds for a worthy cause, creating awareness, while also giving locals a chance to sell their wares,” said Priya Naidoo, YMA director, who hopes to see the craft market become an integral part of the community.
YMA is a registered non-profit company (NPC) dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of abused and abandoned animals in the Yellowwood Park, Woodhaven, Woodlands and Montclair communities.
The organisation welcomes all local crafts, homemade goods, fresh produce and family friendly activities to take up a stall at its craft market which is held every Saturday from 9am to 3pm, opposite 29 Curlew Crescent, Yellowwood Park (Between Yellowwood Park Spar and Yellowwood Park Sports Club). Come through and show your support for this exciting initiative aimed at uplifting animals and the community that cares for them.
