City’s service departments close but call centres still active
The electricity, water and sanitation departments consumer service centres will be closed during the 21-day lockdown and refuse will be collected on normal scheduled pick-up days.
eTHEKWINI Municipality has implemented tough measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19) in public spaces and facilities. This follows the announcement of the National State of Disaster by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The mayor, cllr Mxolisi Kaunda, ordered the city management team to be vigilant and ensure that safety measures, including but not limited to hand sanitizer, wet wipes, continuous cleaning of public spaces and educating of the public continues in municipal facilities and issued a directive that restrictions must be imposed in the following public service departments:
Electricity department
Customer service centres will be closed during the 21-day lockdown. Arrears during this period will not be disconnected. Call centres for reporting issues will be opened. The electricity department will be on standby to repair power issues. No meters will be read during this period. All metro bills will be estimated. Report electrical issues to the WhatsApp line on 076-791-2449.
Water and sanitation department
Consumer service centres will be closed during the 21-day lockdown. Call centres will be opened. Arrears during this period will not be disconnected. The water department will be using internal plumbers to repair burst pipes and water leaks. Services might be delayed but faults will be repaired. During the lockdown period, no meters will be read. All metro bills will be estimated. Report water leaks and burst pipes to the water department’s WhatsApp line on 073-148-3477.
DSW
Refuse will be collected on normal scheduled pick-up days. Orange bags will not be collected during the lockdown period. Join the Bluff Community Noticeboard or eThekwini Ward 64 Facebook Page for more service delivery and community updates.
