“As our country is within the 21 day Covid-19 lockdown there is a lot of uncertainty. This is totally unprecedented and there are still a lot of questions. We are still experiencing conflicting statements from various government departments but the basic principle is to avoid leaving your home unless absolutely necessary. It is concerning how many residents are trying to find reason why they should go out. I believe it is vitally important that we all take this matter seriously,” he said.
Hegter assured that all essential services will still function. “This includes refuse collection, plumbers and electricians. The city is also planning on placing a marquee on Montclair Sports Field as a lockdown facility for the homeless in ward 64. This will be strictly monitored.

“I would like to call on all residents to remain calm and just let common sense guide you. SAPS with assistance from the SANDF will conduct roadblocks and random stops.
“You will be required to justify your trip. They are out there to protect you, show them the respect they deserve. In short, stay home and save lives,” said Hegter.
