A wave of hope for Phola Park
BHC volunteers arrived at the informal settlement bearing a bakkie-load of 10kg of mealie meal sacks for each family.
RESIDENTS of Phola Park, Bluff were blessed with lovely surprise by the Bluff Hope Centre (BHC) to help see them through the national lockdown on Wednesday, 25 March.
BHC volunteers arrived at the informal settlement bearing a bakkie-load of 10kg mealie meal sacks for each family. This comes after the centre was forced to suspend its daily feeding scheme for the duration of the national shutdown.
“We closed our doors on Monday, 23 March after the official address of the shutdown. We thought it was wise to do so because we didn’t want to take a chances by putting our volunteers and the people that we feed, at risk. It was a hard decision but we had to make it. We don’t want anyone to be infected. It was in our hearts to do something to help the many that depend on us for a daily meal.
“After speaking to our pastor, John Grobler from Durban Christian Centre (DCC) Bluff, he suggested that we buy mielie meal for the disadvantaged community of Phola Park. This was an amazing initiative and it was such pleasure. Going into the lockdown knowing that we have done something to help these people and providing them with the means to feed themselves, puts us at ease. Pastor Grobler played a vital role in making this possible and we extend our thanks for helping us, help those in need,” said BHC co-founder, Lorraine David.
