Keeping viewers entertained during lockdown
Wentworth comedian, Daryl Williams is keeping people entertained with his Facebook comedy show, "Almost Funny and Off the Cuff".
DOES the lockdown have you bored out of your mind?
Why not tune into “Almost Funny and Off the Cuff”, Wentworth comedian, Daryl Williams’, online comedy show, which airs every day from 10am on the Dala U Crew (DUC) group’s Facebook Live, to help beat the quarantine boredom.
“We have been inundated with negative news every single day. This free initiative, in partnership with the DUC Group, is all about keeping the people entertained. The goal is to uplift people while they are stuck at home during the lockdown. I did not plan this at all, I just put out a video on the first morning of lockdown, telling people to tune into my live video where I would tell jokes that I thought were ‘almost funny’, as I hadn’t performed them on stage yet. It has been going well so far. People look forward to the show and I have been inundated with inbox messages of people asking questions about the show,” said Daryl.
The show also has an interactive segment where the audience gives him topics and he has to make jokes about it ‘off the cuff’.

His last stage show before the lockdown, was on 14 March at Mellville Comedy Club. “The very next day, the club announced via social media that it had closed its doors due to the widespread coronavirus. That’s when it actually hit me that this thing is real. It stopped being a joke. All my March, April and May bookings have been cancelled. In this industry it is all about getting gigs and this has severely affected myself and many others. Millions of people thrive within the entertainment industry and there doesn’t seem to be a rescue for us by the government.
“Although I’m not being paid I’m still doing what I love and that is to create laughter because I believe you can laugh in any situation. I enjoy comedy because I love putting smiles on people’s faces and even under all the uncertainty, I have not lost that at all,” shared the comedian.
His online account has been flooded with positive comments of support from online viewers who have thoroughly enjoyed his funny content. Due to being homebound, he currently doesn’t have any income and welcomes donations to help cover operational costs of the show. To watch the show or for more information join the DUC group on Facebook or visit Daryl’s personal account, Daryl Nqobile Williams.
