Councillor provides update on Ward 64 refuse collection

If your household refuse has been collected, you are requested to take it back into your property and not to the garden refuse site.

WARD 64 councillor, Gavin Hegter, has advised residents to not dump their waste outside the Glanville Road Garden Refuse Site in Montclair. “This is not a dump. It is not to be utilised to dispose of household refuse as it is illegal. It is a garden refuse and recycling site which is currently closed for public use. Travelling to the garden refuse site is not an essential trip in terms of the disaster regulations. Law enforcement has been tasked to charge a R5000 fine for illegal dumping and you can be arrested for contravention of the national regulations if caught committing this crime,” he said.

According to Hegter, most of the DSW staff at the Collingwood Depot, which services local communities, downed tools last week due to the fact that they had not been issued with suitable protective equipment.

“There are still some workers who are not feeling safe. However, it has been reported that they have since been provided with protective gear. Household refuse collection should be back on track soon and they will be working overtime to clear any backlogs,” he added.

If your household refuse has been collected, you are requested to take it back into your property and not to the garden refuse site. DSW will collect it from your home. If your refuse has not been collected in Ward 64, message Gavin Hegter your road name on 072-821-1917.
