Ward 66 councillor shares latest updates during lockdown
eThekwini Municipality Cleansing and Solid Waste Unit has assured residents that waste collection would be as per normal collection schedules.
BLUFF councillor, JP Prinsloo has provided residents with the latest updates and happenings in ward 66 during the national lockdown.
Refuse collection
Prinsloo urges residents not to take any refuse to the garden refuse site located on Tara road, Bluff. The site is currently closed until further notice. “Residents should also not dump any of their bags outside of the refuse site as this will cause other health risks. If your household refuse bags are not collected please contact the following numbers: 031 311 8804 / 031 311 8836 or email dsw@durban.gov.za,” said Prinsloo.
eThekwini Municipality Cleansing and Solid Waste Unit has assured residents that waste collection would be as per normal collection schedules. However, orange bags have been suspended until further notice to reduce the risk of contamination. In the interim, residents are encouraged to limit the amount of recyclables generated, or reuse, upcycle or store recyclables within their properties, or as a last resort dispose into black bag for collection.
All garden drop off sites and garden landfills were closed from Tuesday, 31 March 2020 until further notice. During this time, residents are encouraged reduce the generation of this waste stream by limiting cutting and pruning, to reuse through home-scale composting and store it their property until services resume.
Sanitation programme
The Department of Human Settlements handed out hand sanitiser and soap to all residents living in the old convent on Donelley Road, on Wednesday, 1 April.
“This is a very densely populated area within the ward and houses some of the most vulnerable people within our community. This outreach is in support of preventing the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
