Bluff families lose their homes in blaze
The families now have to start from scratch and pick up the pieces after the traumatic ordeal.
THREE Bluff families have been left devastated after losing almost all of their belongings in a fire that destroyed their homes on Wednesday afternoon, 8 April.
It is believed the fire was caused by a gas stove explosion, at 22 Stott Road, Bluff where there are five wooden cabins situated on the residential property. No serious injuries were sustained.
Caroline Du Toit, of 22 Stott Road, is a member of the three families that lost a great deal in the blaze. “We were only able to salvage the fridge and the washing machine before the whole cabin went up in flames. We have lost everything. We have no clothes, shoes, food or a place to stay. My 10-year-old son, Lloyd has lost all his clothes, school uniform and books. This has all been very devastating for us,” said Caroline who also thanked the Bluff community that has since reached out to her with aid.

The families, of which most are headed by car guards as breadwinners, have been left to start from scratch and pick up the pieces after the traumatic ordeal. They are also receiving support from Zoe Solomon, the ward 66 chairperson of the Vulnerable Groups and Gender Committee, which feeds 285 people on the Bluff.
Any assistance from the Bluff public is welcome. The committee is also in great need of rice during this difficult time. To make a donation or for more information, contact Zoe Solomon on 073-027-5432.
