Crimen injuria case opened against woman who defamed Ramaphosa
The woman, who lives in the Upper Highway area, has since apologised and reckons the incident was “blown out of proportion”.
A CASE was registered with the Brighton Beach Police against a woman who made derogatory comments about President Cyril Ramaphosa following his address to the nation on Thursday evening, 24 April.
The comment was made on a Facebook post, which has since been deleted, together with the woman’s account. The comment made by the woman referred to the number one citizen as “an ape trying to act like a first world”.
This prompted the ire of a Bluff-based man who reportedly filed the case with the police.
The woman, who lives in the Upper Highway area, has since apologised and reckons the incident was “blown out of proportion”.
However, apologising after the fact will not do her any good, as a case of crimen injuria, which is deemed an act of “unlawfully, intentionally and seriously impairing the dignity of another” in South African law, has been opened at Brighton Beach police station.
“I can confirm that a case of crimen injuria is being investigated against a KZN woman after she allegedly referred to the president in a derogatory manner in her Facebook page.
The case was registered at Brighton Beach Police Station at about 8pm on Tuesday, 21 April. No arrest has yet been effected,” said National Police spokesperson, Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo.
