Group provides locals with much-needed hearty meals
Founders Melanie Israel, Anwar Khan and Michael Koster said their initiative started with family hamper distributions and moved on to serving hot meals daily.
IMPOVERISHED families in Wentworth and surrounding areas have had to worry less about their food woes during the lockdown thanks to the tireless efforts of the Wentworth Renaissance Committee (WRC).
Seventy per cent of its donations are funded by the group’s management who have not only been providing the community with hearty warm meals since the start of the lockdown but have been lending a helping hand to the community over the years.
Founders Melanie Israel, Anwar Khan and Michael Koster said their initiative started with family hamper distributions and moved on to serving hot meals daily.
They also work in solidarity with other community feeding schemes such as The Skidoo’s Joseph Foundation and KZN Arc and Chowtime.
“We call on strategically situated businesses mainly in engineering and construction fields to donate, sponsor or fund us in forms of family hampers and groceries for the feeding scheme.”
“We are also in partnership with Food for Life and serve well over 3 500 meals per day to families on the Bluff, Merebank, and Wentworth.
“We really appreciate all who have donated and made this possible for the past 31 days and the week before lockdown,” said Melanie.
