Government issues relocation rules for lockdown period

COUNCILLORS will not be issuing any permits.

This is according to the Government Gazette published on Thursday, 7 May on the once-off movement of people and transportation of goods.

The lifting of the ban is to facilitate movement within and across provincial, metropolitan, or district boundaries.

While level 4 of the lockdown means the relaxation of movement bans along with other rules, residents are cautioned that the country remains under lockdown and must ensure that rules are adhered to at all times.

As such, the allowance grants movement to those with lease agreements entered into before or during the lockdown or if the transfer of immovable property occurred before the lockdown and requires a change in place of residence. It also includes the transportation of goods to a new place of residence within the country.

However, before the movement can take place, residents are advised to ensure that the following requirements are met:

• Travel will only be permitted from Thursday, 7 May to Sunday, 7 June.
• It is also required that a permit is in possession. A permit can be obtained from a station commander of a police station or the commander’s appointed second in charge.
• Information of those who are part of the moving household will also be required.
• Have the relevant lease agreement in possession which indicates the date of expiry of the old lease and the date of commencement of the new lease, or the transfer documents attesting to the change in place of residence or change of ownership of property. A completed permit form will also be required.
• Residents in the Durban south basin can get their permits from either Montclair, Wentworth or Brighton Beach police stations and should note that councillors do not issue these.
