Community activist’s legacy will live on
Donrald Naidoo was a familiar face to many in the community and he was known to lend a helping hand in many worthy initiatives.
THE Bluff lost one of its cherished unsung heroes recently. Donrald Naidoo was a familiar face to many in the community and known to lend a helping hand in many worthy initiatives.
Ward 66 war room chairperson, Charles Leaven shared how he has lost both a friend and partner in service. “As some may know that I am heavily involved in a lot of community work, Don was always there working with me every day to achieve the same goals, except he wasn’t in the public eye.”
Don was a member of the Community Policing Forum, he helped Charles establish the Bluff CPF Youth Desk, he was a member of the Bluff Business Committee, as well as involved in a new organisation to help manage precincts and develop business properties on the Bluff. “We discussed many plans and ideas to help uplift the community around us because we thought that if the community around us was better that all the ships in the harbour would rise and our success would be inevitable. That’s the kind of vision this man had.
“Donrald was a good friend, not just a good friend but a brother. His strength and character during his most challenging times was remarkable, he always encouraged me to be the same. As the saying goes: iron sharpens iron, and so to does a good friend sharpen another. We would talk for hours and hours on end about our plans for business, how we would partner together on certain deals, I had the knowledge, he had the experience in production. Or as he put it ‘You have the know how Charles, what I have is the how to.’
“I want to say thank you Don, for being a good friend to me, thank you for showing me that there is more to life than just being average, that ambition and family are what is most important at the end of the day. You will always be remembered. Rest in peace brother,” said Charles.
