Bluff Peninsula history book updated
The new edition features 50 new images along with coverage of developments on the Bluff from 1980 until 2018.
A revised, updated, full indexed edition of Bluff historian, Duncan du Bois’ book, Bluff Peninsula – a random history, has been published.
It is available from Elena at Ink.Com at Wakefield’s Centre, Regal Spares at 557 Bluff Road and Brighton Beach Veterinary Clinic, 303 Marine Drive.
The new edition features 50 new images along with coverage of developments on the Bluff from 1980 until 2018. As a result of continued interest in the first edition, which was published late in 2018, Du Bois said he felt that instead of having a further run of that edition printed, it would be more worthwhile to expand its focus while at the same time adding to the existing contents.
As a result of further research, much has been added to the early years of the Bluff from James Saunders King through to how the Bluff was left out of the establishment of the municipality of Durban for 78 years. Some of the new material was derived from the late Keith van der Watt’s newspaper, The Ratepayer and from the Pigeon Post, the forerunner to the Southlands SUN.
Bluff Peninsula, as Du Bois states in the preface to the new edition, provides a window on the life and times and evolution of Durban’s unique suburb. As an historical source, it is rich in context and detail concerning issues and events which span a period of almost 200 years.
