Bluff councillor unpacks latest service delivery update

IN keeping the community updated with the latest municipal developments, ward 66 councillor JP Prinsloo, has provided the latest service delivery information.

Durban Solid Waste (DSW)

The Collingwood depot encountered various challenges over the past three weeks as a result of positive Covidd-19 cases. This severely disrupted the collection of refuse bags and litter picking across the ward. Backlogs due to the closure have been cleared over the past weekend.

“From now on, waste removal will operate normally adhering to waste collection days unless any vehicle breakdowns occur,” confirmed Prinsloo.

The collection of orange bags has resumed and will be collected in normal collection days. Contact DSW Education Section on 031-303-1665 if you require any orange bags. Report DSW issues to dsw@durban.gov.za

Parks Department

“The Parks Department will only be fully operational under level two of the lockdown. A phased approached has been implemented for the return of staff and certain services.

Phase one included the return of cooperatives that stared cutting verges and islands. No community parks or open spaces will be cut until staff returns to work. This includes the removal of any litter within parks, beaches and open spaces,” clarified Prinsloo.

All Parks depots are currently being sanitised and staff are being trained on new health protocols before they can return to work. Only half of the staff complement will return to work when staff are allowed to return and high risk staff members will be required to remain at home.

Roads and Stormwater Maintenance (RSWM)

“The Department has taken a phased approached to the return of staff to all depots. The depots are currently running at a 50% capacity. Certain faults will be prioritised during this phase, such as asphalt reinstatements, blockages, missing manhole covers.”

External municipal contractors have been assisting the RSWM to deal with other faults reported. Report any faults to: eservice@durban.gov.za or  WhatsApp 073-148-3477.
