Man dies in Merebank shooting

A young man, 24, died in a passer-by shooting on Friday morning, 10 July.

A YOUNG man, 24, lost his life in a passer-by shooting on Friday morning, 10 July. The fatal incident took place in Merebank at the corner of Simla Road and Gulmal Crescent.

The deceased was one of two occupants in a tow-truck.  “It is alleged that a tow-truck was parked off Simla Road while waiting for someone, when an unknown vehicle with occupants drove by and fired several shots towards the tow-truck resulting in both the tow-truck occupants being injured. The 24-year-old man and the driver, aged 30, were taken to hospital, but the young Asian male died in hospital shortly after arrival. The motive for the shooting is not yet known,” said Wentworth police spokesperson, Captain Mbuso Gumede.

A case of murder and attempted murder is being investigated by police. The detectives are following the leads. No arrests have been made. Police appeal to any witnesses to come forward and report by calling 031-451-6240/6241/6242 or the Crime Stop 08600-10111.
