Esmeen spreads the Madiba Magic
Seeing the dire needs and the high unemployment rate in her community is the primary reason for her undying passion to assist others.
AS we approach the much-loved Mandela Day on 18 July, Wentworth community leader, Esmeen Usher, has chosen to lead by example, by celebrating her birthday, which falls on the same day as our fallen hero, in the true essence of ‘Madiba magic’.

Over and above keeping the ChildTime Feeding Scheme alive to help feed families most affected by the Covid-19 outbreak, Esmeen is hard at work, raising funds to help those less fortunate. “We’re raising funds in hopes to do a toiletry and sanitary towels drive for Mandela Day as well as handout treats to the youth in the community. At this unprecedented time of such a need in our community, I think helping wherever I can is a given,” said Esmeen who will be celebrating her 56th birthday by spreading hope and uplifting others this year.

“Economic development and unemployment have always been an issue in Wentworth. The situation in our community is getting worse both economically and with the present situation of Covid-19 peaking. Presently we are only cooking and doing feedings three times a week due to dwindling of funding and sponsorship at a rapid pace,” she said, speaking of the challenges she has encountered with the feeding scheme.
Seeing the dire needs and the high unemployment rate in her community is the primary reason for her undying passion to assist others. She is also a role player in the Engen ECSF and Creating Beautiful Space NPO with the assistance of her partners Diana Hoorzuk and Faizul Nagel, who helped form the Childtime Community Feeding scheme as well as the Ogle Road Story Telling Space.

“We work in collaboration with Phila Mtwana and Thabitha Community Care Services. We have also assisted a number of organisations outside of Wentworth in many ways. Knowing that I’m able to do my bit for our community, seeing and experiencing people’s gratitude especially the children’s happy faces, who rely on the little that we do, keeps me going. Even on the bad days, knowing that I’m empowering those around me keeps me motivated.”
There is very little Esmeen cannot do, as she proves a force to be reckoned with in the construction industry, being the owner of her own company as well as owns a skincare manufacturing business. “Seeing the impact my products have on people’s lives and their confidence and their day-to-day life is so fulfilling,” she said.
