SOUTH Africa has hit over 200 000 reported Covid-19 cases as of last week. In KZN, eThekwini Municipality’s south sub-district remains as the epicenter of Covid–19 in the province.

This was confirmed by the KZN Department of Health, which shared that the province has been receiving a variable number of new cases daily, of which the eThekwini District has been recording a median of 335 cases daily, since 19 June.

The SUN took to the streets to find out community members’ views on these concerning Covid-19 numbers and what measures they’re taking to keep safe.

Mandla Sokhela: As the numbers increase, we need to be more cautious. People cannot go against regulations and think that they will hear positive news. We need to do what is right and follow regulations in place. Sanitise going in and out of stores and other places, this should be strictly implemented also in our homes.

Anya Kruger: If we continue not following regulations, the numbers won’t stop. I have family members who are Covid-19 positive and it is not something I would wish for someone else. Wear your mask, sanitise and let’s hope for the best.

Nelson Chiliza: The increasing numbers are not a good sign and I think it’s best for people to just stick to following the rules. To be safe as possible I sanitise and always wear a mask.

Kwanele Ngcobo: I am following precautions but I am concerned about those who are not. As the numbers rise, I have seen how people are still careless towards following regulations.
