Unfixed burst pipes irk residents
He also expressed his dissatisfaction with the poor workmanship displayed on street maintenance.
A MONTH’S worth of clean drinking water has been going down the drain on Fairbridge Road in Woodlands.
The faults, from two separate burst underground pipes, seep onto the tar in endless streams. Frustrated resident, Des Aman, said he and his neighbours have filed numerous reports with eThekwini Municipality, with no success.
“From the first week in June, the water has been gushing out. It is clean drinking water. My neighbours have also reported it and municipal representatives came, had a look and only restored a portion of the tar, but never attended to the leak,” he said.
He also expressed his dissatisfaction with the poor workmanship displayed on street maintenance.
“When they came to sweep, they didn’t pick up the heaps of dirt, they are still there. We pay rates and if we don’t, they won’t have their salaries. My complaint is about keeping the place clean – even if it means they outsource workers, like those who clean the highway, they are very good.
“There’s a municipal workshop right up the road from us, they could dispatch those workers to sort this problem out. But when you speak to them, they tell you that they are in another department and don’t deal with these kinds of issues.”
“Nobody wants to take accountability for this. My plea is for them to do their job.”
