Brighton Beach Police educate the aged on their rights during Covid-19

AN outreach programme for the aged created awareness on the threats imposed on them during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The initiative, formed by Brighton Beach police, was to aid the elderly with useful information on financial abuse as most are becoming the sole breadwinners to their extended families.
Corporate communications officer, Captain Louise le Roux, said the success of the programme was owed to the distribution of care packs which contained an information guide on their rights and an information guide on domestic violence.
“The literature within the care pack had the aim of empowering the aged on their rights and how to source a protection order against those who impose on their well-being. In addition, a Covid-19 educational brochure, written in English and isiZulu, were placed within each care pack,” she said.
A soap bar and sweet treats were also in each care pack which was distributed to the aged who were queuing for their Sassa grants at the Bluff Towers Mall.
“Through this public awareness campaign, the SAPS had achieved the strategic objectives of the organisation, which is to empower vulnerable groups through educational initiatives.
“Through partnering with the business sector a platform was created for the organisation to campaign for the rights of vulnerable groups in society,” Le Roux added.
