Municipality denounces fake reports on water cuts
Members of the public are urged not to fall for fake news.

ETHEKWINI Municipality has issued a statement distancing itself from a recently published article by a well-known publication about possible water cuts.
“We wish to inform the public about a fake article that was published stating that Durban will face heavy water cuts. The article states that there will be water cuts for seven hours every night due to the ongoing drought in the province. This will then result in eThekwini limiting water supply in all municipal areas,” said spokesperson Msawakhe Mayisela.
He warned residents that this was false news which was disseminated with intentions to cause unnecessary panic among residents to tarnish the image of the municipality.
He said there is only one planned shut down for Sea Cow Lake and Springfield Park on the north of Durban, which had already been communicated to the public.
“Members of the public are urged not to fall for fake news. The municipality has communication platforms to inform the public about programmes and projects.”
