Montclair SAPS ends women’s month on a positive note
The station commander, Colonel Trevor Small said they have heeded to police minister Bheki Cele's call to turn the tide on how they respond to GBV matters and show that they care.
OFFICERS and stakeholders at the Montclair police station ended the month of August on a positive note with a prayer meeting held at the station recently.
Chairperson of the CPF, Aaron Nyadi, pastors Jacque Lewis and Collin Chetty, chairperson of the Clairwood sub-forum Juan van Dyk and various security companies were the esteemed guests at the gathering.
Station commander, Colonel Trevor Small, in his speech acknowledged the strength of women in society and highlighted the turning point for women in the country following the march in 1956 to challenge societal injustices.
“We acknowledge and reach out to the victims of gender-based violence (GBV). We as the SAPS and our partners have made a commitment to assist all victims of abuse by treating them sensitively with guaranteed confidentially and compassion with a view to prevent secondary victimisation. With this commitment, we aim to bring all GBV perpetrators to justice,” he said.
He added that he and his staff had heeded to police minister Bheki Cele’s call to turn the tide on how they respond to GBV matters and show that they care.
“We need to brighten our corners and beat the ills of society with positive attitudes towards making a difference within our areas of control and influence. I therefore pledge mine and my staff’s commitment to doing our best to helping victims of abuse even by going beyond the call of duty.” The meeting ended on a positive note with members requesting for it to be a monthly gathering.
