Man arrested with stolen unlicensed pistol and ammunition
The firearm was positively linked to a case being investigated by police in Ntuzuma.
A MAN was arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and illegal ammunition.
The man was apprehended by members of the National Public Order Policing (Pop) Unit who were patrolling Wentworth.
“A 38-year-old man was arrested for being in possession of unlicensed firearm and possession of illegal ammunition. Six 9mm live ammunition and a 9mm pistol were seized from his possession,” said spokesperson for Wentworth police, Captain Mbuso Gumede.
“The firearm was checked and found to be positive on a case investigated by the Ntuzuma police where it was taken during an armed robbery,” added Gumede.
He added the accused appeared in Durban Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 22 September. “The members of the unit were commended for the seizure of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and for ensuring that crime involving the illegal possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition decreases.”
