Portas Ngonyama is Clairwood's (ward 32) new councillor, after being succesfully elected in last week's local by-election.
PORTAS Ngonyama is Clairwood’s (ward 32) new councillor, after being successfully elected in last week’s local by-election.
He is knowledgeable of the state of Clairwood and applied for the councillor position upon hearing of the opportunity. Ngonyama belongs to the ANC and has been an activist for the party for over 20 years. Speaking to the SUN he said that he was grateful for the opportunity to be in a position to uplift the largely disadvantaged community.
He wants to make a noticeable difference by primarily focusing on the various service delivery challenges in Clairwood. “Problematic refuse collection, unregulated trucks in residential areas, human settlements and informal housing, unemployment, lack of ablution facilities, illegal electrical connections and fixing roads in poor condition are just some of the issues I want to tackle by working closely with the municipality and community members,” he said.
