Montclair police intensify operations in the precinct
Consider these safety tips provided by the station Commander of SAPS Montclair, Colonel Trevor Small.
THE Station Commander of SAPS Montclair, Colonel Trevor Small, appeals to the public to abide by the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa which assures citizens that everyone has a right to be treated with dignity and respect.
There is a legal obligation upon members of the South African Police to act on acts of criminality. Therefore transgressors who do not conform to the law will be arrested and placed before the Criminal Justice System.
Over the past week, police have intensified operations in the policing precinct following incidents of intimidation and violence. Police have established a task team to investigate cases with possible arrests imminent.
“High-density operations have commenced in the precinct ahead of the festive season. Police will be conducting regular inspections at liquor outlets and second-hand dealerships to ensure compliance as per the stipulated acts. Police will continue to work closely with the Community Policing Forum as well as other stakeholders to enhance visibility at hot spots. We are cautioning residents to adhere to the following advice,” said Col Small.
* Ensure that your property is properly secured at all times. If you are leaving your home over the festive season, alert the neighbourhood watch or your security company.
* Due to the environmental design of Montclair, residents park their vehicles on pavements. Ensure that you activate your alarm and secure it with a gear lock. Criminals are opportunists who will pounce on unsuspecting victims.
* Refrain from parking in isolated areas. Do not park in unlit areas.
* Businesses must refrain from keeping large sums of money on their property. It is safer to make regular deposits at a banking institution.
* Ensure that you are not being followed when making deposits or withdrawing large sums of money from banking institutions.
* Be careful not to carry large sums of stokvel money on your persons. Report suspicious persons or vehicles immediately to SAPS Montclair on 031-489-8219/8204.
