Montclair crime in brief

This week's report includes a case of murder and a business robbery.

MONTCLAIR police are investigating a case of business robbery after two unknown men ransacked a store on Wood Road, Montclair, on Wednesday, 16 December at about 3.10pm.

“The store was opened for business when the two men entered on the pretext of purchasing some items. The victim attended to one of the men and took his order. As he opened the till, he noticed the other man jump over the counter with a firearm. He threatened the victim by pointing the firearm at him. He forcibly removed a large amount of cash from the till and fled on foot to a silver Yaris in an unknown direction. There were no injuries in this traumatic situation,” said communications officer, Derek Vijiam.

 

A CASE of murder was registered following the discovery of a body on Sunday, 20 December at about 8pm. The deceased man was found next to the road between blocks N and O at SJ Smith Hostel, Mobeni.

“He had sustained an open wound to left side of his chest. The motive for the murder is unknown,” said Captain Vijiam.

“SAPS Montclair advises the community to be extra cautious and vigilant during the festive season. Many will be looking forward to celebrating the festive season, however, it is also the time for the community to take all precaution to look after themselves during this pandemic of epic proportions.”

“Our police officers will be out to enforce law and order. All those who are found contravening the regulations of the Disaster Management Act will face the full might of the law. Roadblocks and stop and searches are ongoing in the Montclair area. During the operation and part of enforcing compliance with the Liquor Act, drinking in public is prohibited. We are making an earnest appeal to the community to consider staying at home during the festive season,” said Captain Vijiam.
