SDCEA’s community cancer surveillance to keep record of suffers
This is the group's response to the increasing pollution and associated health impacts experienced in South Durban.
HEALTH is a key aspect of interest for the South Durban Community Environmental Alliance (SDCEA) which is why they have started a community cancer surveillance also known as a cancer registry.
This is the group’s response to the increasing pollution and associated health impacts experienced in South Durban which they said residents and business owners continue to suffer from.
“The community cancer surveillance aims to serve as a database for cancer information and statistics are drawn regularly from it. These statistics are proposed to be used as evidence and motivation for the implementation of 24 hour clinics in areas of high pollution.”
“The more people that come forward with cancer information, the larger our database will become and this will hold a greater weight in our fight for a better and cleaner environment and in turn improve the health of those suffering from pollution,” said the organisation’s media and communications officer, Joanne Groom.
SDCEA requests all those affected by cancer and its associated health impacts to send their information to their database.
