Learner reps tea off to a good start

A FRESH breed of leaders and representatives have been elected and inducted at Mowat Park High School.
As part of the all-girl school’s tradition, these learners were exclusively treated to a tea party with the acting principal recently.
“The aim was to formally meet with the principal as the leadership body for 2021, which consists of the learner leader representative executive council and the learner leader heads which were the head girl and the deputy head girl.”
“The objective further included the discussion regarding the plans in place for the school this year. “Both negative and positive issues that we are currently facing were addressed. We also touched on what positive initiatives we could work on for the greater good of our school and the community,” said head girl, Simangele Biyela.
She also shared a story about how she and the representative council of learners’ (RCL) chairwoman, Samkelisiwe Mngadi, spoke their respective positions into existence years back. Their story served as an upliftment to others.
“When we were in Grade 9, she playfully introduced me as the RCL chairwoman of 2021 and I called her the head girl. Since then, we’d playfully give ourselves those titles and fast forward to today, we are in those positions,” Samkelisiwe said.
“This proves that whatever you say can happen. If you believe and see yourself in a certain way, it does happen,” said acting principal, Amanda Ngidi.
