Gang nabbed for Sassa card scam on the Bluff
The suspects will appear in court on Monday, 10 May.
A QUICK relay of information and teamwork between, police, security companies and the CPF, led to the arrest of four suspects.
The three women and a man were wanted for withdrawing large amounts of cash from ATMs using various Sassa cards in the Wentworth and Brighton Beach Policing Sector, last night Thursday, 6 May.
Spokesperson for PT Alarms, Trishen Govender said information was received via Wentworth SAPS that the suspects were busy employing their criminal tactics in the area and were reported to be at an ATM at a mall on the Bluff at about 9pm.
“Police and security personnel sprang into action and kept the suspects under surveillance. They withdrew money from the ATM and were about to enter their vehicle when crime fighters pounced.
“PT Alarms’ Tactical K9 unit, Wentworth and Brighton Beach SAPS, SAPS Flying Squad and Umlazi K9 SAPS boxed them in and prevented them from departing. ET Rapid Response and Security Force were also on scene,” he said.
The suspects were found with an undisclosed amount of cash and cards. They were arrested and were taken to Brighton Beach SAPS for further investigations and processing.
“Well done to the PT Tactical K9 Unit, SAPS members and all respondents on the arrest of the ATM scammers,” he added.
Spokesperson for Brighton Beach police, Captain Louise le Roux confirmed the that collaboration was between various SAPS stations, security companies and the Bluff CPF.
“Three women and a man, between the ages of 18 and 48, were arrested last night after being found to be in possession of suspected stolen Sassa cards and bank cards from various financial institutes. They are being charged with Section 36 for being in possession of suspected stolen property. They will appear in court on Monday, 10 May,” she said.
