UPDATE: Bluff Road hijackers arrested

Upon further investigation, it was established that the two men had hijacked a truck carrying goods in the Greenwood Park area.

A WOMAN was held at gunpoint, at about 8am today, at the M4 off-ramp towards the Bluff. According to the police, she was approached by two men who were both armed.

“They took her motor vehicle and drove towards Bluff Road and then towards South Coast Road. Authorities were alerted and pursued the vehicle,” said Captain Louise le Roux of the Brighton Beach police.

“The hijacked vehicle collided with another and then ploughed into a fence and stalled. Two suspects were arrested and two firearms were recovered. Both the serial numbers were edged off,” added Roux.

Upon further investigation, she said, it was established that the two men had hijacked a truck carrying goods in the Greenwood Park area.

“The bakkie that was used by the suspects when they hijacked the truck was parked near the truck in Pinedene Road. They were in this area to offload the truck.”

“The security guards came to Pinedene Road and tried to intercept the suspects who fled. There were five suspects in total.”

“The bakkie was hijacked from KwaMashu a few weeks before from the KZN Department of Health. The suspects fired shots at the security in Pinedene Road. A case of attempted murder is being registered at the Umbilo police station,” she added.

Two firearms were found in the hijacked bakkie that was abandoned in Pinedene Road with serial numbers also edged off. Captain Le Roux added that the investigation continues and informers have been activated.
