Montclair crime in brief

A ROBBERY case was filed with the Montclair police after a man was threatened with a knife and had his cash forcibly removed from him on Friday, 7 May, at about 11.30am.

According to Captain Derek Vijiam, the man was in a company vehicle near Himalayas Road near South Coast Road Bridge.

“He was collating his finances when he was accosted by two unknown males. They ran off with the cash in the direction of the hostel,” he said.

 

Business robbery
AN on-duty security guard was tied up at gunpoint at a butchery on Swinton Road by unknown men on Saturday, 8 May, at about 12.30am.

“He was questioned by a driver of a white vehicle and three other unknown males. One of them had a firearm which he used to point at the security. The suspects attempted to break the ATM inside and removed electronic equipment from the office,” said Vijiam.

Crime awareness
MONTCLAIR police embarked on a Social Crime Prevention in an Edu-Care Programme at Durban South Primary School in Clairwood on Thursday morning, 13 May.

Constable Mapa Mnguni facilitated the Stranger Danger programme, which according to Vijiam appears prevalent among learners.

“Pamphlets and flyers were distributed, educating the attendees on all different types of dangers. They were cautioned of the life-changing experiences that could have a negative or detrimental effect on them and or their health,” he said.
