Tafta invites you to give remotely this Mandela Day
Tafta has created the perfect opportunity to safely incorporate the valuable Mandela Day contributions of loyal donors and supporters into helping elders breathe a sigh of relief.
SOUTH Africa’s recent digression to alert level 4 of the Covid-19 has cast a damper over the elderly community once again.
“As we listened to the president’s address we were mindful that this latest lockdown has signalled a return to the feelings of helplessness, fear and anxiety for our elders, and we need your help to change this. And even though there have been numerous challenges, The Association for The Aged (TAFTA) is looking forward to most of our elders receiving their vaccines by the end of July. This milestone will turn the tide of fear and herald a sense of relief for our elders and staff. While we cannot yet re-enter the Covid-free society we all remember, we can now begin creating a sense of optimism for a healthier and safer future,” said Taft’s media liaison, Prevashni Naidu.
This Mandela Day, Tafta is calling on the public to help the organisation do just that, through the simple theme being endorsed this year by the Nelson Mandela Foundation: One Hand Can Feed Another.
“With such a special occasion to commemorate, Tafta has created the perfect opportunity to safely incorporate the valuable Mandela Day contributions of loyal donors and supporters into helping elders breathe a sigh of relief. With Nelson Mandela’s name being synonymous with ‘freedom’, we are aiming to help elders celebrate freedom from their fear and anxiety with a convivial ‘Madiba Magic’ luncheon at each of our homes, once the third wave has passed,” said Tafta CEO Femada Shamam. Shamam confirmed that while the lunches are set to take place during a safer period, preparations for these celebrations are currently underway.
“Our catering partner, Capitol Caterers, has pulled out all the stops to serve a 3-course meal that will conjure up a sense of celebration that we liken to meals during the festive period, for just R130 per person. And while we know there is a way to go until we completely eradicate the virus from our society, we invite you to spend your 67 minutes investing in the hope our elders feel by making this Madiba wish come true” she said.
Merrill King, CEO of the catering company, expressed her excitement in partnering with Tafta on this initiative. “We are extremely proud to be associated with TAFTA in this year’s Madiba Magic Luncheon campaign. My staff and I will be personally involved in preparing and serving 1 645 amazing meals for the elders at the various residences. As Madiba wisely said, ‘One hand can feed another’. It is incumbent on us all to adjust our moral compass, and not just for one day”, she added.
Safely spend your 67 minutes of kindness by giving remotely this year for your Mandela Month activity; starting with just R130 to ensure one elder receives a festive lunch, while R1300 will sponsor a group of 10 to safely enjoy a meal.
