Investigations revealed that the firearm was stolen from a car that was parked on Isaiah Ntshangase Road near Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday, April 30.

A TWENTY-ONE-YEAR-OLD man was arrested in Wentworth for the unlawful possession of a firearm on Wednesday, July 21.

Acting on intelligence, the police swooped into Silvertree Road where the man was found with the pistol and six rounds of ammunition, police said. The arrest was part of a multi-disciplinary operation that was conducted in the area.

“The aim of the operation was to eradicate the proliferation of illegal firearms in the area. Innocent people are losing their lives and some are left with injuries due to gang shootings,” said provincial spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele.

She said investigations revealed that the firearm was stolen from a car that was parked on Isaiah Ntshangase Road near Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday, April 30.

“The suspect will be profiled to check if he is linked to cases that were committed in Wentworth and surrounding areas. The recovered firearm will be taken to ballistic tests to determine if it was used in any of the serious and violent crimes in the province and country. The arrested suspect appeared before the Durban Magistrates Court on Thursday, July 22.
