Ward 68 councillor vows to better service
Councillor Aubrey Snyman has condemned the recent fatal shooting on Lansdowne Road.
CURRENT ward 68 councillor, Aubrey Snyman, is in the running for another term in office for the upcoming elections. The member of the DA has 15 years of service to the community and is eager to continue the streak.
Apart from his political career, he is a board member at Wentworth Hospital and Durban Mental Health. As the chairperson of the Austwent Taxi Association, he prides himself in being able to give rebates to senior citizens on their fares per trip.
“My offer to voters is to give them my undivided attention, assisting them wherever I can and implement our 2021 manifesto to provide better service delivery to our community,” he said.
His achievements as a councillor include entertaining senior citizens at year-end functions. He is involved in various community projects such as getting traffic calming measures, cul-de-sacs and water standpipes installed.
He also lends a helping hand at informal settlements and assists people in need with burials. He recently spoke out to the SUN about the rife gang culture and drive-by shootings in Wentworth.
He said these are mostly drug-related and have been ongoing for years as gangs battle each other.
“It is very sad to see our community being destroyed because of drugs and greed. We are a peace-loving community that is being under siege, traumatised, threatened and innocent people are being shot, which is uncalled for and unacceptable.”
“Our community needs to take back its freedom of living in peace and harmony instead of living in fear and under threat. These drug scum are constantly at war with each other because of their drugs. The recent shootings in Lansdowne Road and many others that have been taking place have to stop,” he said, calling on parents to play their part in disciplining their children.
He said increased police visibility in hotspot areas and regular on foot police patrols in these areas will reduce shootings and drug operations.
“If we all stand together and stop protecting the wrongdoers, the violence would also stop. My deepest sympathy and condolences to the family and friends who have lost their loved ones and may their souls rest in peace,” he added.
