AMSA candidate plans on cultivating a crime-free Merewent

FOUNDER of Wentworth Angels and community leader, Tracey Williams is ward 68 chosen candidate for Activist Movement of South Africa (AMSA).

She said she took up the post because now more than ever, Wentworth and Merebank need a change.

“After numerous engagements with the public at large, I decided to take the step and contest the Local Government Elections.”

“I have also come to the realisation that fighting against public office bearers on behalf of the community gets you nowhere. Hence the residents of Merewent must come out in their numbers and support AMSA,” she said.

Born and raised in Wentworth, her passion has always been to serve humanity. Starting at the tender age of nine, she watched her parents extend their hands to whoever was in need at that time, and so began her journey.

She said growing up in a community that had great needs, she followed suit and started a shelter for abused women and children including abandoned children.

Williams’ manifesto centres around cultivating Merewent into a crime-free and well-established society.

“I am here to provide all the support, guidance, mentoring and development for our community. Crime in this area is spiralling out of proportion. We will establish local security companies that have a zero-tolerance for crime and corruption and will serve the community without fear or favour.”

“We also plan on ensuring that the community is upskilled and afforded fair job opportunities. Housing is a priority for everyone in this ward. AMSA will ensure that this time around your voice is heard, loud and clear.”

“We are currently like a forgotten generation. The council flats and homes need to be revamped for the transition of title deeds to take place. Infrastructure needs to be repaired and upgraded to ensure that we don’t fall victim to continuous water outages and roads concaving in the area,” she said.

In addition to running an outreach feeding scheme, serving the community with hot meals and groceries almost every day, Williams is involved in various other projects. These include hosting motivational and Youth Day events, and parties for the youth and elderly.

She was also instrumental in hosting gender-based violence workshops, marches against paedophiles and rapists, drug awareness educational workshops and assisting with drug-related issues in ward 68.

Although she is known as Tracey Williams her name on her ID is Tracey Leigh King and thus is such on the ballot paper.

“AMSA’s main aim is to restore the Merewent community to what it once was. It is imperative that local government works with the people, NPOs, NGOs and civil society groups. Greed has overcome public office bearers, hence it is important that everybody votes out corruption,” she added.
