Learner honoured at ceremony
Rufaro achieved an impressive 85% for mathematics and 86% for both english and science.
BLUFF Christian Academy alumnus, Rufaro Audrey Chakanyuka, notched up six distinctions in the 2021 matric exams and will further her studies in actuarial science. The Engen Maths and Science School learner believes that challenges that arise can be easily overcome with a positive attitude, which allows you to look at any problem knowing that there is a solution.
Not one to take things lying down, Rufaro achieved an impressive 85% for mathematics and 86% for both English and science, and harbours ambitions to study actuarial science at the University of Cape Town in 2022. The all-round achiever said she will use her tertiary skills to uplift those in poorer communities. Rufaro advised students in matric to create enough time for studying and also make time to socialise, exercise and look after one’s mental health, as the year is long and burnout can be imminent.
“Always make sure that you give yourself enough time to study for tests and exams. To check how well you understand a topic, go over past exam papers in exam conditions because this will prepare you for the finals. Finally, enjoy every moment as it is the last year of high school,” said Rufaro.
Engen’s manager of transformation and stakeholder engagement, Dr James Nyawera, said Engen is incredibly proud of Rufaro and all the EMSS learners who completed matric in 2021, despite extremely trying circumstances. “Well done to all for showing true grit and determination. It is Engen’s ultimate reward to help set talented people up to pursue stimulating careers that won’t only benefit them personally, but also their families and the broader economy of South Africa.
“Engen is committed to building tomorrow’s leaders and if we want to ensure that the youth of tomorrow are prepared for a rapidly changing world, we need to ensure that they have the right mix of skills, for them to reach their full potential,” concluded Nyawera.
