WATCH: Pools at Brighton Beach set to reopen
Children from the area will soon be able to make a splash in the public pool at Brighton Beach.
FAMILIES can once again look forward to enjoying fun in the sun at the Brighton Beach pools, which will be ready for reopening in a few weeks.
The once flourishing and vibrant recreational area was closed off to the public due to the pavement and covered seating area being structurally unsafe, while the Brighton Beach upgrade was put on hold due to budget constraints within the municipality.

Following an oversight visit from the community services committee within the city to try to fast-track the process, Ward 66 councillor Zoë Solomon said she was glad that the pools will be reopened in a few weeks.
“We had concerns that the area would deteriorate further due to the pools not being operational for a long period of time. We were having no joy with the second phase of the beach upgrade which was supposed to take place over two-and-a-half years ago.
“I was told that everything was on par, but the budget has become an issue due to the constraints. We now have some joy, and despite concerns that the pavement above the pools was declared structurally unsafe, we have cordoned off the area and a refurbishment was done so the area could be safe,” said Solomon.
Together with community services committee members, under the portfolio of beaches and pools, councillors Gavin Hegter and Ramona McKenzie, Solomon conducted an oversight visit in May and requested that Hegter and McKenzie assist in expediting this issue to the correct officials.
“We are glad that the pools will be reopened just in time for children and families to enjoy as spring brings in warmer weather. An announcement will be made to notify residents when the pools will reopen,” Solomon added.
