Merewent Cheshire Home launches new campaign

The Merewent Cheshire Home which provides care to residents living with disabilities are facing major challenges to continue covering the basic needs of its vulnerable residents.

IN an attempt to boost funding and donations, Merewent Cheshire Home has launched the R30 Change Initiative, aiming to leverage the power of small contributions to significantly impact the lives of its residents.

Established on June 1, 1994, by Fatima Meer, the Merewent Cheshire Home originated from a commitment to provide care and support to individuals with disabilities, regardless of race, especially during the apartheid era.

Today, the home upholds this legacy by offering residential care to 35 individuals who rely on state pensions to cover their accommodation expenses.

Winnie Mkhize, the current manager of the home, underscores the crucial role of donor support in sustaining their operations.

“A home such as ours cannot thrive without the generosity of donors,” Mkhize stated. “While profitability is not our aim, our dedication to caring for the most vulnerable members of our society remains steadfast.”

The R30 Change Initiative aims to emphasise the transformative potential of small donations. “We often overlook the spare change in our pockets, but collectively, these small amounts can make a significant difference,” Mkhize explained. “Your change can create change in someone’s life who is truly in need.”

Currently, Merewent Cheshire Home faces shortages of essential provisions, including adult diapers, detergents, toiletries and more. With the support of the community, the home aims to address these shortages and continue providing high-quality care to its residents.

The home invites all local businesses, schools, churches, families and individuals to participate in this initiative.

For those interested in contributing to the initiative, you can donate R30 to their bank account, Merewent Cheshire Home, Standard Bank, account number 051745542. Alternatively, you can contact Winnie Mkhize on 079 341 6435 for assistance.
