Widowed and single parents donate appliances to children’s home

The children and staff at St Monica's Children's Home were delighted to receive an out of the ordinary donation.

IN a heartwarming display of compassion, Widowed and Single Parents (Wasp) extended their support to the children of St Monica’s Children’s Home, enriching their daily lives with essential electronic appliances, recently.

Spearheaded by Brian Naidoo, the chairperson of Wasp, this initiative received assistance from Pick n Pay Montclair, who generously provided the appliances.

“We deal with many homes, frail care facilities, schools and individual recipients, including St Monica’s Children’s Home, and many cannot afford basic items,” stated Naidoo. “This is an unusual and unique donation as thus far I have not seen any other NPO do this kind of donation. The items are brand new.”

Among the contributions were kettles, toasters, a 25-litre heating bucket, desktop fans, irons and an oven/ stove combo.

St Monica’s Children’s Home serves as a sanctuary for children who have endured abandonment, domestic abuse, or the loss of their parents. Recognising the crucial role of support for these vulnerable children, Naidoo emphasised the necessity of love, care, attention, and devotion. Wasp strives to extend its assistance to various children’s homes in and around Durban, recognising the vital importance of their aid.

Althea Govender, the director of the home, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Pick n Pay Montclair and Wasp for their generous contribution.

“I express my gratitude for the generous donation of appliances which will be used by the children daily. This thoughtful gesture is what is needed in our tough times,” said Govender. As Naidoo aptly said, “Let us try to make our world a better place, one day at a time, in any small way we can.”
