Severe weather alert for KwaZulu-Natal
Residents and motorists in the eThekwini region are advised to exercise extreme caution as heavy rainfall is expected in KwaZulu-Natal today, June 3.
THE South African Weather Services (SAWS) has issued a critical weather advisory for today (June 3), urging the public to brace for persistent, heavy rainfall across KwaZulu-Natal, particularly in the eThekwini region.

This Level 4 warning comes amid concerns of potential flooding, infrastructure damage and risks to vulnerable settlements.
According to forecast models, intense rainfall is expected to pummel KwaZulu-Natal throughout the day, with higher intensities forecasted along the coastal areas of eThekwini.
eThekwini Municipality said in a statement, “This warning underscores the imminent danger of flooding on roads, potential damage to infrastructure and the risk of destruction to mud-based houses in affected areas.”
Motorists are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution when navigating wet roads and to maintain a safe following distance.
“With a high probability of moderate to heavy rainfall persisting from midday until 23:00, drivers are urged to prioritise safety and avoid unnecessary travel if possible,” eThekwini said in a statement.
In light of the forecasted weather conditions, the municipality has issued a precautionary warning to residents, advising them to remain indoors whenever feasible and to refrain from non-essential travel. It is emphasised that attempting to cross rivers and streams during this period is extremely hazardous.
The City’s Disaster Management Centre stands ready to assist the public in case of emergencies.
