Sallyanne Graham, a passionate community advocate, has taken it upon herself to turn discarded plastic caps and bread tags into a force for good.
Sallyanne has initiated a unique recycling project aimed at both helping those in need and fostering a spirit of community cooperation. By collecting plastic caps and bread tags, she is not only promoting environmental sustainability, but also supporting organisations that specialises in recycling these materials.

“I believe in the power of community and the importance of helping one another,” Sallyanne said.
“My project is inspired by the African proverb ‘One hand washes the other,’ which teaches us that mutual support and cooperation is essential for creating positive change,” said Sallyanne.
Her project revolves around the simple yet effective idea of collecting plastic caps and bread tags that might otherwise be thrown away. She has set up a collection point at her home in Yellowwood Park, where community members are encouraged to drop off their unwanted items. Once collected, these items are donated to a recycling organisation that transforms them into useful products.
Sallyanne’s project is more than just a recycling effort; it’s a testament to the proverb that has guided her actions.
“The proverb reminds us that we are stronger together,” she said. “When we support each other, we create a better, more compassionate community.”
Her vision includes not only a large scale recycling programme, but also educational workshops to teach people about the importance of recycling and environmental conservation.
