Police conduct surprise search at Wentworth Primary
The police conducted a comprehensive school search, targeting learners from grades 6 and 7 at Wentworth Primary School.
IN a proactive measure aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of learners, the police Vispol Support and Communications members from Wentworth Police Station conducted a thorough school search at Wentworth Primary today (September 12).

The operation, which focused on four classes from grades 6 and 7, was part of a broader initiative to maintain a secure learning environment and address concerns related to student safety.
During the search, which targeted approximately 110 learners, various prohibited and potentially dangerous items were confiscated. These included knives, vapers, cigarette lighters, a toy gun, a vaper charger and playing cards.
Safety concerns raised
Police spokesperson in Wentworth Captain Mbuso Gumede said the presence of such items raised concerns about safety and disciplinary issues within the school.
In addition to the search, Gumede addressed learners on crucial topics, such as bullying, respect and the importance of focusing on education. He also discussed the potential long-term consequences of engaging in criminal behaviour, including the impact on a student’s future and criminal record.
“The principal of the school expressed her gratitude to the police for their visit, acknowledging the positive impact of the operation on the school community.

“The school search was well-received by both staff and learners, contributing to heightened awareness about safety and respect within the school. The police’s ongoing commitment to supporting local schools and fostering a secure educational atmosphere continues to be an essential aspect of their community-engagement efforts,” Gumede added.
