Brighton Beach Police corporate communications officer, Captain Louise Le Roux, launched the station’s festive season child-safety school roadshow.
“The objective of the roadshow is to re-condition learners on their personal safety when occupying public spaces,” said Le Roux.
Armed with her homemade presentation foam-board teaching aids, the presentations assisted visual and autistic learners in understanding who a stranger is and the methods used by strangers to lure them, including the lacing of treats.
“The visual aids also assist in attaining the principles of ‘look, listen, learn and remember,” said Le Roux.
She added that the programme also teaches road safety, which is also accompanied by a homemade foam presentation board.
“Personal safety when occupying public toilet facilities and when being a passenger in a vehicle is included in the presentation. About 21 educational institutes are expected to participate in this SAPS initiative. Through this roadshow, the police will attain its strategic objective of empowering children on their personal safety,” she added.
