Adopt a child, feed a family for Christmas with Wentworth Angels

Spreading festive cheer and providing sustenance to the young and old is one of Wentworth Angels’ goals with their Christmas drive hamper and Adopt-a-Child initiative.

AS the festive season draws near, Wentworth Angels is embarking on its annual Christmas drive to bring cheer and sustenance to families in need. Spearheaded by founder Tracey Williams, the organisation is collecting donations to assemble grocery hampers, which will be distributed to elderly residents and single-parent households within the community.

Williams said this food drive has taken on special meaning to help these families through the holiday season. “We are dedicated to supporting seniors and single-parent households, and these hampers are more than just a meal for one day; they provide food security for days on end,” she said.

The hamper will include the following items:

  • oil
  • rice
  • mielie meal
  • tea
  • sugar
  • milk
  • sugar beans
  • pasta
  • peanut butter
  • jam
  • butter
  • cake flour
  • onions
  • potatoes
  • tomatoes
  • a whole chicken or a 2kg portion
“These staples are to bring comfort and nourishment to the families during the celebration of the season,” she said.

Concurrently, Wentworth Angels will be running its Adopt-a-Child initiative.

A favourite among the regular donors, this initiative allows an individual to choose a child off the Wentworth Angels’ page and buy them some Christmas clothing.

“Poverty exists in every community, and our goal has always been to make a difference for our people – especially the elderly and the young,” Williams shared.

The Wentworth Angels Christmas drive and Adopt-a-Child programme have grown over the years into a highly anticipated event on the calendar that has the young and old excited for the festive season.
