Local teams lock horns in soccer tournament

Junior and senior soccer players from different sporting clubs in eThekwini participated in the tournament held in Wentworth recently.

SOCCER teams gathered from various areas in eThekwini and battled it out at Bayview Sports Club in a 5-a-side tournament on November 2.

The morning games kicked off with the U7 teams eager to show what they can do. The Durban International Football Academy (D.I.F.A) A team won the title with D.I.F.A – B taking second place. With the U8 groups, the Grasshoppers took first place while Yellowwood Park was runner up.

The thrilling games left fans on the edge of the fields cheering on their children and teams working hard for the title of champions.

The U9 finals saw Fynnlands FC finish as the winners in the tournament. They were closely followed with D.I.F.A team taking second place.

With racing hearts the DPS Soccer Academy took first place in the U10 group. In this age group, Glide Soccer Development were pleased to take second place.

The fans were loud as the U11 KZN Lyons conquered first position and Bayview Panthers took second place. While in the U12 groups, Glide took first place and KZN Lyons were second.

With the trophies and medals out on display, the fields were buzzing with excitement. In the U13 group the KZN Lyons were champions and Bayview Panthers took second place.

The match intensified as the U15 groups worked their way up to success. Newlands Sporting took first position with Dube FC in second place. The tournament was a success, and the players were reminded how rewarding the games can be.

Bayview Sports Club hosted their first tournament for the year as the club has undergone a huge transformation with a newly renovated tuck shop and the negotiations of sponsorships.
