A teacher at Alipore Primary School and an entrepreneur, Sherwyn cites the three main influences for this competition as inspiring others, finding personal growth and supporting the call for men’s mental health.
“First and foremost, I wanted to be an inspiration to my learners and to others who may feel that their circumstances limit their potential. The journey of preparing for Mr. India South Africa has been an invaluable process of self-development. I’ve grown mentally, built my confidence, and even developed a more refined sense of style and grooming under the mentorship of Mr. Danny Moodlyar,” Sherwyn explained.
He added that raising awareness of men’s mental health was something dear to his heart since he has had his own bouts with depression.
Sherwyn views the competition as a platform to celebrate successes and cultural heritage.
“Mr. India South Africa represents a unique platform for individuals to celebrate their identity, culture, and values while engaging with a diverse community. It’s more than just a title, it’s an opportunity to demonstrate leadership, responsibility and advocacy for important causes, while representing the vibrant fusion of our Indian and South African heritage,” he said.
Besides the competition itself, Sherwyn has based his journey on personal and community growth. Under Moodlyar’s mentorship, he has honed a set of skills such as communication, networking and grooming. Being part of a religious group, The Bluff Sai Organisation, further added to his experience.
“I’ve had the opportunity to engage with the youth, including coaching cricket for children in my community. I’ve volunteered my time with food drives, organised hampers for children’s homes, and participated in various other community-focused initiatives. These experiences have not only strengthened my understanding of core human values but have also helped me develop the balance and perspective needed to navigate challenges in life,” he said.
Sherwyn believes winning Mr India South Africa would symbolise an opportunity to make a greater difference.
“It is about using the platform to make a meaningful impact, both on myself and on the lives of others. As someone who has faced my own struggles, including mental health challenges, I would use this platform to raise awareness around the importance of men’s mental health. Men often face societal pressures that discourage them from expressing vulnerability and I aim to break down these barriers,” he said.
