Wentworth Angels calls on community support for stationery drive

Wentworth Angels are appealing to the public to assist in creating stationery packs to distribute to learners in need.

LOCAL non-profit organisation, Wentworth Angels, has embarked on its annual stationery drive in support of single parents and guardians for school-going children under their care. The organisation has been running this project for over eight years, to keep disadvantaged learners in school with much-needed educational supplies.

Tracey Williams, founder of Wentworth Angels, said they are conducting a stationery drive to collect pens and other basic stationery to textbooks that families are required to pay for.

“The stationery drive began following a sad incident in which a child missed a whole year of school due to the death of their family’s only breadwinner. Since then, Wentworth Angels has been striving to ensure that no child is ever left behind because of financial burdens,” she said.

Williams added that the youth come from disadvantaged homes and education is very important. “We continue to assist so mothers don’t fall into that struggle,” she said.

Community members are encouraged to contribute by donating stationery items or preloved uniforms and school shoes. Financial contributions can also be made to the following account:

Williams said whether it’s a box of crayons, a schoolbag or a monetary donation, every little bit helps to make a difference.

Williams hopes the community will rally behind the effort, adding education is one of the most effective ways to help break the cycle of poverty.

“We’re grateful for any contribution, big or small. Together we can ensure every child has the tools they need to succeed,” said Williams.
