Gcaba said at this stage no more local workers have been added to the site team. She further confirmed the next concrete pour is scheduled for today (January 20), provided there are no weather complications.

“The site meeting was held on January 14 and the councillor (Gavin Hegter) questioned with regards to the delayed pour of concrete. The contractor said that concrete cannot be poured when temperatures are extremely hot or raining as our current weather patterns have been, however they have been monitoring for cooler nights to make the pour a potential overnight job,” she said.

Residents have been asked to bear with the increased truck traffic passing through Yellowwood Park during the 13-hour concrete pour process.

Coedmore Bridge, badly damaged during the 2022 floods, has subjected residents of wards 64 and 65 to 45-minute detours while it remains closed.

The eThekwini Municipality has allocated R48 million for the rehabilitation of the two-lane, 90m bridge, which will include pedestrian walkways. Funding for the project has been sourced from the National Treasury’s Municipal Disaster Response Grant.
